Our Bishop's son, Grant Knighton, was Mike's hometeaching companion. Grant and his buddy, Kenny, did a whole lot of digging dirt for our backyard. They had an unofficial business name of "Grant and Kenny's Odd Jobs for a Buck." I love this picture of him. It is a "classic Grant smile."

Tragically, he was killed in a car accident a week ago. He was getting ready to turn in his mission papers in a few months. Here are his parents and little sister on their left.
Since Mike is Bishop Knighton's 1st counselor (and the bishop usually is closely involved with a family at the time of a death) Mike spent many hours each day in their home, helped with arrangements, and even helped in preparing Grant's body for burial. Mike felt honored to be helping and said there were many spiritual experiences throughout the week.
The funeral was beautiful. Approximately 800 people were there. I loved the part of Bro. Nicholl's talk (a previous YM leader) when he said, "Erik, (Grant's younger brother) do you suppose when you go on your mission, Grant will be working with the families you are teaching from the other side of the veil? And Laura, (Grant's younger sister) soon you will be 12 and able go to the temple to perform baptisms for the dead. Do you suppose Grant will be working with those people from the other side of the veil? I do." I loved singing "Called to Serve" as the closing song.
Grant was so fun and so loved. His parents did a great job in raising him and now his Heavenly Father needed him home to do important missionary work there. I love to think about the reunions Grant must be having.
