Hair

Yep, David needs a haircut! He sure makes a cute little girl though!

Brooke is about to get 4 inches cut off her hair... she just likes to pose with her mouth wide open sometimes, don't ask me why...

Here's what Nicholas and Zach ended up with for Crazy Hair Day for school...

I tried to put green food coloring (mixed with gel) in Nicholas' hair and red in Zach's. But as you can tell, Nicholas' color didn't show up too well.

And David finally got that haircut! His 2nd haircut in fact (at 10 months old)...

Zach the T-ball Star

This is Zachy's first year at t-ball after watching Nicholas play the last couple years. He's doing really well and we are so proud of him!

Smacking the ball hard! Even when they do "coach pitch" Zach can usually hit the ball on the first pitch:

Here's Zach, at least paying attention even when the teammate behind him (and most of the other teammates) are playing around in the dirt:

Way to go, Zachy!

Stake Conference with Elder Ballard

Several weeks ago our stake heard that Elder Ballard would be visiting our stake conference and we were all wondering "Why?" Come to find out, there would be no stake presidency changes or boundary realignments or anything. Elder Ballard was just coming to be a part of our stake conference! Elder Jon Hunstman was suppose to come with him, but ended up not coming because his son was appointed by President Obama to be the U.S. ambassador to China and would be receiving that appointment the same weekend. Therefore, he elected to be with his family at that time.

We were only 4 rows back from Elder Ballard at the Saturday evening adult session and it was neat to have an up close view. He spoke of spiritually preparing ourselves each day so our lamps would always be full, and referred to the story of the Ten Virgins. It's the simple things that matter: family prayer, FHE, going to church, reading scriptures, etc. He recommitted us all to pray each evening with our spouses to thank the Lord for having another day with each other. Essentially, he said praying as a couple is a cure all for any marital woes we may be having. How simple is that!

During his talk it struck me how much he reminds me of my dad, especially his hand motions while speaking. And I knew my dad would about choke if I tried to compare him to an apostle, but it's true! In fact, Adam (my brother) mentioned the same thing to me before I even said anything about it!

Since there wasn't much of a line to greet Elder Ballard after the Saturday evening session, I went up and shook his hand. Mike ended up shaking his hand on Sunday too.

He also spoke on becoming spiritually edified through sacrament meeting and to search the scriptures each day. And about how grandparents should focus on making happy memories for their grandkids and setting good examples. Most importantly, the Holy Ghost was so strong and powerful. It's wonderful to feel the Spirit testify to me that Elder Ballard is an apostle of Jesus Christ who loves us so much.

Promotion Day for Nicholas

You'll need to push pause on my music playlist...

This is part of what Nicholas needed to know to earn his orange belt. There are 7 different colored belts, the top 5 have additional levels within one color as well. Black belt being the highest (#1). Orange is #6 of the 7. It took him 2 months to get ready to test for this belt, the higher the belt, the more time it takes to prepare for the test.

We are so impressed by his attention to detail and hard work. Great job Nicholas!

Do You Watch American Idol?

So who's it going to be? Adam or Kris?
Adam seems more comfortable on stage due to his experience, but Kris has a nice style. I'd be happy with either being the winner, but I think it will be Adam.

I really enjoy watching American Idol once it gets to the top 10. I've never voted, maybe one day I will. Not sure why they need 4 judges now, I think 2 would be plenty. Now that Paula has performed on Idol's stage, I think Simon needs to also! It would be fun to see Randy up there too.

Happy Mother's Day, Mom!

You'll need to push pause on my music playlist...

I think if I can get half as many words out of my kids when they are teenagers (and even just half as sentimental!) it'll be worth it!

Cape Mears and the Octopus Tree

We discovered a new tourist spot to check out:
This is the Cape Mears Lighthouse right near the "Octopus Tree." This lighthouse is short and stubby, which makes it different from other lighthouses. It's right on a cliff so it didn't need to be tall. We were able to go up inside and it's quite fascinating to learn the engineering behind lighthouses. (Yes, this picture was lifted from the internet, we weren't fortunate to go on such a sunny day!) Very interesting Sitka Spruce tree they call the Octopus Tree:
This sign near the tree explains strong coastal winds formed this tree:

Gorgeous view even on a cloudy day:
And wouldn't you know it! It wasn't far from the Tillamook Cheese Factory! I asked, "Who likes ice cream?" and Brooke raised her hand. The boys gave me that "duh, mom" look.
