This is the Cape Mears Lighthouse right near the "Octopus Tree." This lighthouse is short and stubby, which makes it different from other lighthouses. It's right on a cliff so it didn't need to be tall. We were able to go up inside and it's quite fascinating to learn the engineering behind lighthouses. (Yes, this picture was lifted from the internet, we weren't fortunate to go on such a sunny day!)

And wouldn't you know it! It wasn't far from the Tillamook Cheese Factory! I asked, "Who likes ice cream?" and Brooke raised her hand. The boys gave me that "duh, mom" look.

That's one of our favorite day trips to do too! So much fun.
Our favorite beach is Oceanside, which is on Cape Meares just a few miles away from the lighthouse. During low tide there are tons of tidepools. Besides starfish and sea anenomes we've even seen a seal pup once. There is a little cave that you walk through to get to where the tidepools are. Anyway you should stop there next time you head out to Cape Meares!
